University of Helsinki - Gender Studies, Doctoral Programme in Gender, Culture and Society (SKY); The national Gender Studies Doctoral Programme
At Helsinki University, Gender Studies is a part of the Department of Philosophy, History, Culture and Art Studies, in the Faculty of Arts. Here, two full professors and twelve docents work to promote Gender Studies and to coordinate and administer relevant instruction, as well as to maintain contacts with other institutes for Gender Studies, and distribute information in the field of Gender Studies. Gender Studies is also the base for the multidisciplinary doctoral programme Gender, Culture, and Society (Sukupuoli, kulttuuri ja yhteiskunta) – SKY. All faculties of humanities and social sciences are taking part in the programme that welcomes applications with an interest in gender, sexuality and feminist scholarship from all fields and disciplines. Helsinki is also InterGender’s connection to the Finnish National Gender Studies Doctoral Programme, which was established in 1995. Since then, 34 doctors who have graduated from the school. The national doctoral programme is currently funded until 2015.
